The city of West Branch is a growing community located on the outer edge of Cedar County along Interstate 80. With just a short driving distance of thirteen miles to Iowa City and 35 miles to Cedar Rapids many more opportunities await. The West Branch Community School District consists of an elementary, middle and high school. With approximately 350 students the elementary school serves pre-kindergarten-4th graders, and has a 4-year old pre-school with approximately 40 children. The middle school has approximately 180 students from 5th-8th grades that it serves. The high school houses 9th-12th graders and it offers the opportunity to be known as individuals and also become active leaders.
Scattergood Friends School & Farm can also be found in West Branch. Scattergood Friends School is a diverse, college preparatory educational community that promotes the Quaker values. Scattergood Friends School serves 52 students with 28 faculty members.

West Branch was first settled in the mid-19th century by Quakers from Ohio. The City of West Branch is the birthplace of the United States’ 31st President Herbert Hoover. Visitors can enjoy the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library-Museum and the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and Prairie. With over 70 businesses, some of their leading employers are Schenker Logistics and Acciona Windpower. The Industrial Park is home to Procter & Gamble, Tidewater Direct, Plastic Products, Wausau, and Brown's Motor Sales.
