Lowden is a small town with US Route 30 conveniently running along the outskirts of the City and the Historic Lincoln Highway running through the center of the community. You can hear the sounds of the Union Pacific Railroad traveling on any given day. Lowden has a driving distance of approximately 40 miles to Davenport, Cedar Rapids, and Clinton. The Quad City International Airport is located 45 miles east of Lowden, which provides non-stop flights to various destinations in the United States.
The Lowden Economic Development Corporation (LEDCO) is an organization made up of members from Lowden and the surrounding areas. LEDCO was formed in 1991 to provide a program which enables the community to become better prepared for economic development, enhance community spirit through involvement by local residents and preserve existing businesses and industry.
Lowden’s energetic downtown features many different businesses including a dentist, optomotrist, car dealership, law office, grocery store, hotel (registered on both the Iowa and National Historic Registries) and appliance store. The downtown also has many other businesses that provide one-stop shopping for the residents. A 9-hole golf course and swimming pool awaits you at the 3/30 Golf & County Club.
Lowden is part of a four town school district, North Cedar Community School District. An elementary school with a conjoining daycare/pre-school is located in Lowden. The elementary houses grades kindergarten through fourth grade, and the pre-school and daycare is housed in a separate building that connects to the elementary school.
